Dairyland Healthcare Solutions a provider of information systems for community hospitals and healthcare systems, announced the introduction of a new clinical product, Patient Care Instructions. The product eliminates the instances when a patient is discharged from a hospital or clinic after receiving treatment with illegible, inadequate, or worse, no instructions for recovery care. Patient Care Instructions automates the process of creating clear, concise, consistent, and complete recovery care instructions for patients.

The point-and-click system helps simplify the patient discharge process. Patient Care Instructions reduces the time caregivers spend on creating the instructions and provides them with a standard document for educating patients. Patients are provided with detailed explanations of their condition(s), preventative advice and care instructions, as well as contact information and follow up instructions. The use of non-medical terminology, bulleted information, colored highlighting, and illustrations simplify the instructions. The intuitive format reduces the potential of patients not understanding or following the instructions, thereby improving patient compliance.

Patient Care Instructions is fully integrated within the Dairyland system and is accessible through multiple applications. After selecting the instructions you want to provide to a patient, the system automatically populates the form with the patient’s information and presents the caregiver with a completed form. If necessary, caregivers can also enter additional information on the form such as visit-specific notes or physician advice. When instructions are selected and created for a patient, the application automatically creates a duplicate document and attaches it to the patient’s medical record. By doing so, healthcare providers are able to clearly document when and what instructions were provided to the patient.

Patient Care Instructions includes over 1,200 physician-approved instruction documents, with more being added quarterly. Beyond English, the instructions are also available in Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Vietnamese. Further, the instructions can be printed in color for higher impact and can be customized to meet the branding requirements of your facility with the logos, images, and contact information.
